POKOTABI / GENCHA
源茶 GENCHA
Located in Asakusabashi, GENCHA serves authentic Fujian street-food classics, from tossed banmian noodles slicked with fragrant sauce to piping-hot wontons and rouyan in broth.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Tossed fresh from the water in a savory, concentrated sauce, the house specialty banmian is the natural starting point for any meal here. Giving the noodles a brisk stir ensures the rich, peanut-laced sauce coats every strand, delivering a rustic, deeply satisfying bite. For an extra layer of depth, diners often add a dash of the tabletop chili condiments as they eat.
For a more substantial meal, pairing banmian with a bowl of hot soup and dim sum hits the spot. Set meals combine the dry noodles with thin-skinned wontons, Fujian's distinctive rouyan dumplings with their uniquely textured wrappers, or springy fish balls. The clean, gentle broth balances the savory tossed noodles, rounding out a thoroughly satisfying lunch or dinner.
The à la carte menu features pork buns and pork shaomai available from just 1 piece, alongside delicate soup dumplings and Fuding-style pork soup (Fuding roupian), a regional Fujian specialty. For dessert, light options such as herbal grass jelly echo the relaxed, unpretentious feel of an everyday local eatery across the strait.
Housed in the Suga Building in Asakusabashi, the cozy shop is centered around counter seating, making it well-suited for a quick, freshly prepared meal. Beyond dining in over steaming dumplings, the shop offers takeout and delivery, bringing traditional regional flavors into everyday dining.
